HR Manager

Under the general direction of the Director of HR and Culture, the HR Manager will lead and direct the routine functions of the human resources department for Steppenwolf Theater Company, including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices.


Areas of Responsibility:

Supervising and leads the recruitment process providing training and leading departmental assistance for managers and supervisors. Leading the onboarding process for new hires, connecting them with other staff and providing necessary materials for success.

Managing all reported interpersonal conflict, managing personnel files, quarterly managing professional development, leading and supporting IDEA efforts and initiatives, and supporting in creation of new policies and procedure both departmentally and organization wide.

Creation and implementation of company wide events and programming to maintain company culture, wellness and overall employee retention.

Alongside Finance Department, manages bi-weekly and weekly payroll and ensures deductions are properly calculated and programmed into payment system.

Maintenance of all benefits, paid time-off requests, and workers compensation information including, Monitoring ACA eligibility and reporting, educating new managers on procedure and assisting in open enrollment.

Successful candidates will have:

Accountable for financial decisions within area. Provides input to the budgeting process for the HR department.

Full supervision of 1 non-supervisory employee.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization HRIS and talent management system.

Desired Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.

A minimum of 4 years of human resources management experience is preferred.

SHRM-CP a plus
